Marvel’s The Punisher just crossed a line no one expected

Follow the spoilers for Punisher No. 6 for this week! The pages of Jason Aaron, Paul Azaceta, and Jesus Saiz’s new play on The Punisher are filled with harrowing moments, some of which rehash all about Frank Castle’s nearly fifty-year history at Marvel Comics. Among the many amazing things, besides, you know, Frank became a key member of the ninja death cult The Hand, is that they got Frank to work for them by promising something no one else could, the return of his family. In the group of comic book characters that remain dead, Frank Castle’s wife and children look like they’ll never come back, and now we know why.

Although The Hand seemed to have no problem resurrecting Maria Castle, Frank’s wife, the group spent a lot of time trying to revive Lisa and Frank Jr. without success. Most of this month’s issue focuses on Frank battling none other than the god of war himself, Ares, but when he returns to the lair and encounters a shocking revelation, attempts to revive his children fail….again. When he goes to see them, Castle is faced with a Cronenberg-like mass of flesh, fingers growing above the fingers, and multiple pairs of eyes staring in pain.

“It’s always tough with the kids,” the High Priestess says to Frank. “Especially those who have died longer than they have been alive… I am afraid that every time we have tried and failed to achieve… viable results, we are left with less material materials to work with. Even the magic elixir blessed by monsters has its limits.” Frank orders the priestess and the soldiers to leave, and he kills his own children whom he revived with his sword.

Next, he tosses Frank into a puddle, staring at his own reflection while thinking about what he’s done. Before he can truly come to terms with what he just did even though he is facing another ghost from his past, none other than the Fearless Man himself, Daredevil.
